Remarks from the Supervisor of Officials: Donnee L. Gray
Dear MACBOA Officials and Observers: This letter comes to you on behalf of Willie, Vedia, Tommie, Ike and me. We hope your summer was super and you are in shape, mentally sharp, hitting the rulebook and casebook, and ready for the upcoming 2002-2003 season! As we prepare for the 2002-2003 basketball season, you should know that MACBOA has just completed a banner year during the 2001-2002 college basketball season. Over 60% of the MACBOA staff received assignments to officiate in the D-I, D-II, D-III post-season tournaments. MACBOA Officials also received assignments in the Maryland State Mens and Women's Maryland State Tournament, Mens and Womens Regional Tournament, and the National Junior College Mens Championships. Our rapport with the institutions that we serve has never been better. We work with some of the most talented student-athletes, coaches and administrators in the country. One goal that MACBOA seeks to foster is a true spirit of sportsmanship and mutual understanding on the part of those associated with collegiate athletics - coaches, administrators, student-athletes, and officials alike - since there is a common responsibility of conducting athletic contests on a high plane. It is everyones responsibility and anything less is unacceptable. Officials: It was an honor and pleasure to have worked with you during the 2001-02 basketball season. Based on your performance and contributions, I would like to once again offer a contract to you for the upcoming 2002-2003 basketball season. If this is your first year with the Mid-Atlantic College Basketball Officials Association (MACBOA), on behalf of the MACBOA family, we welcome you. There are a few things that we need to keep in mind to help make everything run smoothly.
If you have any questions concerning any of the above items, please do not hesitate to contact me. Observers: Like officials, you played a major role in our success this past season. Therefore, once again, I am asking for your services and input during the 2002-2003 basketball season. Officials and Observers: Paperwork: Contracts are being sent via the U.S. postal service. You can go to our MACBOA web site (www.macboa.org) and click on "FORMS" to download the documents to be mailed to the office no later than August 31, 2002. The following items are required: Your completed and signed contract along with a passport sized head shot photograph (if not already on the web site Staff Directory), proof of Liability Insurance (not health insurance, but basketball officiating liability insurance and application fee of $75.00 should be sent to the MACBOA office (Post Office Box 98, Bryans Road, MD 20616) no later than August 31, 2002. Prior to working a game assignment, we must receive your Physical Certification form from your medical physician. You may contact Montrose Physical Therapy to schedule physical examinations and physical therapy assessments at REDUCED COST by mentioning that you are a MACBOA member. Please call Rene Bates, Certified Physical Therapist, Montrose Physical Therapy at their Rockville, MD location at 301-770-5886. Please DO NOT FAX any of your paperwork to the MACBOA office. Regarding Corporate Sponsors: One way that allows us to raise officials fees is through sponsorship. I have sought out businesses that each MACBOA member, from time to time, can use. We are happy to announce that we have added a few new sponsors this year. I encourage all MACBOA members to utilize our sponsors and products. If we do not patronize our sponsors, WE LOOSE MONEY. MACBOA Clinic: I have saved this for last. The mandatory MACBOA Clinic will be held at Prince Georges Community College Gymnasium on Sunday, September 29, 2002. The meeting will begin at 7:00a.m. SHARP! Late arrivals and unauthorized early departures will be fined. Golf: Anyone interested in playing golf? We will be playing golf on Saturday, September 28th with some of our sponsors. If you would like to play, please notify me no later than September 15th,Thank you again for your assistance in these matters. I look forward to a successful 2002-2003 basketball season.
